The Timber Wolf - (also called gray wolf) is a large wolf that is very well adapted to living in the wilderness, forming packs to hunt the bigger preys like the elk, the largest type of deer. The timber wolf's habitat is located in the North American forests; it is extinct in Western Europe, except in a few isolated places in Southeast Europe, Russia, and Asia. Its fur varies in color from gray mixed with black and brown, to nearly black. The Arctic Wolf - is a subspecies of the gray wolf and lives in Greenland, and the shores and islands of the Arctic Ocean to the extreme North of United States. It's fur is nearly white, and it is also one of the larger species of wolves. The Red Wolf - is a smaller species, and its fur varies in color from a reddish gray to nearly black. The red wolf lives in the southeastern part of the United States. In these parts of the country, however, the red wolf is almost extinct, because the farmers saw them as a threat to their cattle, and hunted them down. |
